Rabbi Tuchman will discuss what it means for students to be inclusive in our community and embrace diversity regardless of our own discomfort. Sharing her story, she will teach students what it is like to be seeing impaired and how we can make sure that we are accepting and welcoming.

The 7th day of Adar is a special day, as it is, according to tradition, the date of Moses’s birthday and yahrtzeit. Moses lived a perfect life of exactly 120 years. There is a beautiful custom that we honor Moses on that day by bringing together the members of the hevra kadisha, the burial society that is tasked with ritually washing and preparing bodies for burial. At B’nai Israel, we have a dedicated group of women who performs this act of true kindness (hesed shel emet) when female members of the congregation pass away. We are always looking for more volunteers, and we are working to build a group that can perform this function for men as well. We invite all members of our community who want to learn more about this sacred work to attend a special dinner on this special day. We will share Torah inspiration honor dedicated volunteers, discuss ways to strengthen our commitment to this ultimate actof kindness … and, of course, share in a celebratory meal. No specificcommitment is required to attend. It provides profiles of four Israeli prime ministers who made historic choices and explores the lessons from those decisions to see if they can provide a guide to dealing with the fateful choice that Israel’s leaders must soon confront or by default become a binational state. Rabbi Safra will interview our distinguished guests about the issue raised in this highly acclaimed book followed by Q&A with the audience.
