One of the quintessential experiences of the High Holidays is hearing the sound of the shofar. This year, with so many of us experiencing the High Holidays from our homes, we want to help you make this a memorable and meaningful experience. So, take that shofar off your shelf and perfect your shofar blowing skills!

Somehow the Torah always manages to speak to us in the present. Its lessons are timeless, and that is what makes it a sacred, living text. Explore the weekly Torah portion through the lens of Rashi, the essential biblical commentary. No prior experience required. All texts will be provided in both English and Hebrew.

The Promise transports the reader back in time weaving ancient antiquities and plants the seeds that lead to a modern mystery of events and crimes happening today. A priest in King Solomon’s Jerusalem temple is desperately trying to save two mysterious artifacts that are connected to the sacred religious rites of ancient Israel and God. When a celestial messenger appears, he agrees to give the artifacts to her in exchange for a seemingly benevolent promise. Now, in modern day United States, three people must deal with the promise’s unintended consequences and a life and death prophecy that affects each of them and the world in which they live.

As we near the end of a disruptive summer and anticipate the uncertainties of the fall, there is so much on our minds. What messages might inspire us to find meaning and fulfillment in the new year? What will services at B’nai Israel look like? Rabbi Safra will share an update on our plans and offer an opportunity for “crowdsourcing” of ideas. Grab your ingredients and get ready to make a delicious meal! Supplies needed: olive oil, 1 onion, salt, 3 cloves of garlic, tomato paste, cumin, paprika, red pepper flakes, 1 (28 ounce) can of crushed tomatoes, cilantro or parsley, pepper, 4-6 eggs, crusty bread or pita to eat it with!

This program is especially great for families with pre-school-aged children, whether or not they are enrolled in Schilit Nursery School. This program will continue every week for as long as our building is closed.
