Learn how to wrap tefillin as part of this special morning minyan, followed by a workshop about the “inner-workings” of tefillin, led by Rabbi Mitchell Berkowitz.

Free Men (1 hr., 39 min.) In German-occupied Paris, a young unemployed Algerian named Younes earns his living as a black marketteer. Arrested by the French police but given a chance to avoid jail, Younes agrees to spy on the Paris Mosque. The police suspect the Mosque authorities of aiding Muslim Resistance agents and helping North African Jews by giving them false certificates. At the Mosque, Younes meets the Algerian singer Salim Halali, whom he discovers is Jewish, and he must make a decision.

The Hebrew Bible is not rated G. In this course, you will examine some lesser-known narratives from the Tanakh. Because these texts seem unsuitable for certain audiences, they are often skipped in school curricula and sermons from the pulpit. At the same time, these sometimes troubling narratives offer a fantastic opportunity to explore the complexities of the biblical characters, engage in meaningful ways with our ancient texts, and wrestle in a way that clarifies understandings of ourselves and our approaches to our received tradition. $36 for members; $50 for nonmembers

Service followed by a special kiddush hosted by the Men’s Club. At the service, the club will bestow the second annual Shamash Award to a congregant or congregants for their contributions to the synagogue or community.

In partnership with the National Council of Jewish Women, B’nai Israel will mark Repro Shabbat within the American Jewish community to talk about abortion access from a Jewish perspective.
