Schilit Nursery School
Mission Statement
B’nai Israel Schilit Nursery School provides a stimulating, nurturing, and supportive environment for young children ages fifteen months to five years of age and their families. Through a multi-faceted approach to learning, our program focuses on all aspects of a child’s development—social, emotional, cognitive, and physical—while respecting the individuality of each child. Inspired by a variety of teaching approaches and keeping current with changes in the early childhood world, our curriculum is influenced by the Reggio Emilia and Social Constructivist philosophies.
At B’nai Israel Schilit Nursery School, meaningful play is an essential part of our developmentally appropriate, high quality early childhood program. Engaging in activities centered on the child’s own interests brings a natural motivation to learn. Fostering independence, curiosity, creativity, discovery, critical thinking, and problem solving, children engage together with our skilled teachers to explore classroom materials, building knowledge through cooperative learning and the expression of their thoughts and ideas. Guided by our detailed learning goals, teachers provide a variety of opportunities for children to master age-appropriate skills in all areas of development, including academic readiness skills. Our students become confident, inquisitive, and self-guided learners who are well prepared for their future endeavors.
Our school provides a warm and welcoming community for all families. Building relationships is the cornerstone of our philosophy. We see children as capable and competent, and we partner together with our students and families. We are committed to building lasting relationships with the greater B’nai Israel community, as well as introducing the traditions of Jewish identity and a life-long love of learning.
