12:30–1:30 PM Program
UPDATED NOTE: The published theme of our HAZAK session with Avi Meyerstein may be more timely than ever. Specifics of the program and how the material will be adjusted to meet the reality of the moment is still being worked out.
Israelis and Palestinians are sinking further into crisis. Extremism is on the rise. Despite this grim and worsening reality, another story is playing out on the ground in parallel. Thousands are working together to chart a different course. A network of organizations—the Alliance for Middle East Peace (ALLMEP)—is strengthening their efforts. How does their work have an impact? What opportunities exist? Avi Meyerstein, a B’nai Israel member and ALLMEP’s founder and president, will explore these questions and another dimension of reality on the ground.
AVI MEYERSTEIN is the founder and president of the Alliance for Middle East Peace (ALLMEP). Starting in 2003, Avi brought together dozens of NGOs to build an umbrella coalition, now numbering 160 organizations, that would significantly expand resources, scale up Israeli-
Palestinian grassroots partnerships, and create a growing, interconnective community of peacebuilders. He developed and led ALLMEP’s policy initiatives that led to the passage in 2020 of the Nita M. Lowey Middle East Partnership for Peace Act (MEPPA) with $250 million for peacebuilding in the first five years. He and his wife, Dana, are longtime members of B’nai Israel, along with their children, Ellie, Noa, and Lilah.
