HAZAK: Developing and Maintaining Jewish Connections with Grandchildren with Dr. Marion Usher
Thursday, February 10, 2022 • 9 Adar I 5782
1:00 PM - 2:00 PMZoomGrandparents have traditionally been the transmitters of religion within the family, and in this situation they can be very important vehicles to transmitting Judaism to their grandchildren. Through a facilitated group discussion, grandparents and friends will be able to address their concerns and their hopes for the children. Issues of loss and possibility will be explored. We will also learn skills with which they can begin to transmit their Jewish heritage and religious values to their grandchildren. The theme of this workshop is to help grandparents feel empowered and affirmed in their efforts. Possibilities will become clearer. Come, talk, discuss, and learn effective grandparenting!
Dr. Marion Usher is the creator of “Love and Religion: An Interfaith Workshop for Jews and Their Partners.” With her cohort of over 700 couples, she explores the issues interfaith couples need to address as they co-create the religious life of their new family. Her workshop is now being conducted in cities across the United States and Canada. Her DVD and manual illustrating her workshop model premiered at the Washington DCJCC Film Festival in 2009. She consults with synagogues, and JCCs and on her website, www.JewishInterfaithCouples.com, she blogs on issues related to interfaith marriage. Her articles have appeared in The Jewish Week, Sh’ma, The Washington Post, E Jewish Philanthropy, The Washingtonian and On Faith. In June of 2018, she published her book, One Couple Two Faiths; Stories of Love and Religion.
