HAZAK - Turkey on the Eve of Elections: Implications for the U.S., Israel, and the Mideast...and Turkey with Alan Makovsky
Thursday, March 9, 2023 • 16 Adar 5783
12:00 PM - 1:30 PM12:00 PM BYO Dairy Lunch
12:30–1:30 PM Program
Turks go to the polls in June, with its long-time ruler, the Islamist-oriented Recep Tayyip Erdogan, possibly vulnerable for the first time. Erdogan has frequently been a thorn in the sides of the U.S., NATO, and Israel. Makovsky will discuss the outlook for strategically-located Turkey and its impact on its neighborhood and on the Western Alliance.
ALAN MAKOVSKY is a senior fellow for National Security and International Policy at the Center for American Progress in Washington, DC. He was previously a senior analyst on Turkey and the Middle East at the State Department and, later, the House Foreign Affairs Committee; between those two stints, he was a senior fellow and founding director of the Turkey Research Program at The Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
