High Holiday Workshop - Book Review – Who By Fire: Leonard Cohen in the Sinai by Matti Friedman with Sam Zaremba
Tuesday, September 12, 2023 • 26 Elul 5783
7:30 PM - 9:00 PMIn Israel, Leonard Cohen was one of the most popular global musical stars, due largely to community memory of surprise performances among front-line troops during the desperate days of the Yom Kippur War. Matti Friedman has collected interviews, memoirs, old newspaper articles, and never-published material by Cohen himself to reconstruct his actions and thinking. Join us for a review of the book, including videos and discussions of some of his songs from that time.
Sam Zaremba has been part of the B’nai Israel family since 2000. He was in Israel during the final days of the Yom Kippur War and is nearly certain he was at one of the Leonard Cohen concerts around then.
