Yom HaAtzmaut—Israel’s Independence Day Celebration

5:45 PM - 7:30 PMThis summer, Israel will be celebrating the Maccabiah, a major sports competition in Israel hosting delegations from all over the world which takes place every four years. In honor of this special occasion, B’nai Israel Yom HaAtzmaut celebrations will be in the theme of the Maccabiah.
5:45 PM Maccabiah Games for Kids and Families
In honor of the Maccabiah taking place this summer in Israel we will have competition sport games at B'nai prior to dinner. Join us for this celebration of Israel and sports—prizes for everyone! You may participate in the Maccabiah Games celebration without attending the dinner. However, registration is necessary. Please register below.

7:00 PM Guest Speaker Hagai Dagan Schlachter, Federation's Senior Shaliach
Hagai will be sharing his experiences from his job and also provide a view of Israel as the start-up nation in 2022— especially as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hagai is the Senior Shaliach to the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington. He aspires to strengthen the Jewish community's connection to Israel and to fortify the community's values through its link to Israel. He has a rich background in leading informal education teams. For 10 years he worked mainly in Israel's geographic and social periphery, including south Tel Aviv and the Galilee. From 2014-2017, Hagai was The Jewish Agency’s emissary to Cape Town, South Africa, where he managed the Cape Town Israel Centre. Between 2017 and 2021, Hagai has been working for the Israel’s Ministry of the Economy and Industry, managing projects that strengthen, develop, and sustain the local economy. In his most previous position, Hagai oversaw governmental stimulus grants for small and medium businesses that were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Hagai has a BA in Philosophy and Computer Science, and is a group facilitator by training. He lives in Rockville with his wife Anne and three children.
