Thursday, February 9, 2023 18 Shevat 5783

12:00 PM - 1:30 PM

12:00 PM – BYO Dairy Lunch
12:30 PM – Program

Children in Israel’s four separate education subsystems (Arab, secular Jewish, Orthodox, and ultra-Orthodox) not only do not meet each other but they are educated towards different values, ranging from Israel as a liberal and multinational democracy to Israel as a Jewish state based on Jewish religious law. Israel’s political situation both reflects and reinforces these divisions.

Laurence Wolff and his wife visited Israel during the period November 7–25, during which time he attended meetings with leading Israeli political and religious leaders as well as academics studying Israeli society. During his talk, he will discuss the challenges facing Israel as well as the implications of the recent elections.

LAURENCE WOLFF holds a doctorate in Education Planning and Management from Harvard Graduate School of Education. He worked for most of his professional life on education in
developing countries, including 25 years as an education expert at the World Bank. Over the last
fifteen years, together with wife Miriam Daniel, he has been involved with a progressive Jewish synagogue (Beit Daniel), located in Tel Aviv, Israel, built by his wife’s parents, and one of Israel’s most successful non-orthodox synagogues.
