L.I.F.E. Lecture - Judaism & Islam: Bridging the Great Divide with Ambassador Akbar Ahmed
Sunday, January 31, 2021 • 18 Shevat 5781
7:30 PM - 9:00 PMZoomNo two religions are closer than Judaism and Islam, yet ironically, no two religions are further apart. Using history, culture, and theology as his guide, Ambassador Ahmed reflects on the challenges and opportunities for building bridges between the Muslim and Jewish communities. He will also offer strategies for traversing the political divide in world affairs.
AMBASSADOR AKBAR AHMED is the Ibn Khaldun Chair of Islamic Studies at American University in Washington, D.C. and the former Pakistani High Commissioner to the U.K. and
Ireland. Named “the world’s leading authority on contemporary Islam” by the BBC and
“perhaps the most influential living authority on contemporary Muslim societies” in the Saudi Gazette, Ahmed is a member of the Washington Muslim-Jewish Advisory Council. His most recent book, Journey into Europe: Islam, Immigration and Identity, appears on Newsweek Magazine’s list of “The 50 Coolest Books to Read this Summer: 2018’s Best Fiction and Non-Fiction (So Far).” The film version (2015) is on YouTube.
