Panel Discussion - Shared Legacies: An Exploration of Black-Jewish Cooperation Then and Now
Sunday, January 23, 2022 • 21 Shevat 5782
7:30 PM - 9:00 PMZoom
Shared Legacies, is a film that revisits the crucial historical lessons of Black-Jewish cooperation during the turbulent Civil Rights era, as many Jewish leaders backed the efforts of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to achieve racial equality and harmony. Pivotal events “come alive through a treasure trove of archival materials, narrated by eyewitnesses, activists, Holocaust survivors, and leaders of the movement.”
This panel discussion is intended to follow your viewing of the film, Shared Legacies. Register below to receive a link to stream the film at home. The film will be available from January 17-23. Please watch the film during that time, and then join us for a panel discussion on Zoom on January 23 at 7:30 PM.
Join members of our congregation, Deedee Jacobsen and Phil Weintraub, together with other presenters, for a Zoom panel discussion describing the work of the S.E.A. Change Coalition, a ground-breaking partnership with Washington Hebrew Congregation. The Coalition is allying with other organizations that seek to advance racial and social justice efforts in Montgomery County. The discussion will highlight the ways in which the SEA Change Coalition is honoring the past while applying its lessons to today’s pressing issues.
