Thursday, May 4, 2023 • 13 Iyyar 5783
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM6:00 PM Mediterranean Dinner
6:45 PM Presentation
As Part of Women's Awareness Month, the Men's Club and Sisterhood present Gaylee Schif, the Director of LOTEM- Making Israel Accessible ( a JNF-USA partner) who will speak about their Mother Nature Program.
Mother Nature Program: Helping Battered Women Heal Through the Great Outdoors
There are currently 13 shelters for battered women and children in Israel, housing up to 650 residents per year. LOTEM- MAKING ISRAEL ACCESSIBLE, recognizing the need to promote trust, independence and leadership in these mothers and their children, has developed the Mother Nature Program to provide days of relief and respite to them through the healing power of nature. LOTEM, which offers educational activities throughout the country for children and adults with special needs, guides trips for battered women and their children into parks, trails and quiet streams. The participants learn about their surroundings, including lessons about ecology and seasonal patterns in vegetation and animals that they can relate to their own stormy lives. The natural surroundings allow the participants to relax and let go.
Gaylee Schif is the JNF liaison for LOTEM - Making Nature Accessible, which empowers children and adults with special needs across Israel through educational activities in nature and the outdoors. Born and raised in Israel, she was inspired to pursue work in disability inclusion by being the mother of a child who struggled with disabilities early in life. She has a BA in political science and journalism and a Master’s degree in internal auditing, and has extensive experience as a local newspaper editor as well as an auditor of government authorities and private companies.
There is no charge to attend. Registration is due by Thursday. April 27 to Alan Isenberg.
The Mediterranean dinner is sponsored by Rita and Chet Stein. This event is cosponsored by Sisterhood and Men's Club.
