Former Acting Solicitor General Ian Gershengorn will return to lead us in another lively and informative discussion of the Supreme Court. He will discuss the recent developments at the Court, covering (among other things) the post-Justice Kennedy landscape, Justice Breyer’s retirement and Justice Jackson’s appointment, and the impact of COVID on the Court. He will also discuss high-profile cases regarding abortion, religion, elections and associated voting issues, the Second Amendment, and Affirmative Action.
IAN GERSHENGORN is a partner at the law firm of Jenner & Block, where he is the Chair of their Appellate and Supreme Court Practice. He is one of the nation’s premier Supreme Court and appellate advocates, having argued before the U.S. Supreme Court 16 times. Before rejoining Jenner in 2017, he served in the Office of the Solicitor General during the Obama Administration. Ian attended Harvard College and Harvard Law School, where he was a member of the Harvard Law Review. After law school he served as a law clerk for two years, including one year as a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens. Ian currently co-teaches a course at Harvard Law School entitled “The Roberts Court: Theory and Practice.”
