The World of Greek Jewry with Rachel Velelli Glaser

7:30 PM - 8:30 PMJewish and Greek? Explore the world of Greek Jewry through a historical overview of the two main cultures of the Sephardim and the lesser known Romaniote, highlighting their unique customs, including those around the "Evil Eye" (ptu, ptu, ptu!).
RACHEL VELELLI GLASER was born in Patras, Greece, and emigrated to the United States in 1956 at the age of eight with her parents and siblings. In America, Rachel became active in Jewish life, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Psychology from Goucher College and two Master’s Degrees, one in Education and Special Education, and another in Jewish Studies. Rachel was the Education Director at Beth Israel Congregation Religious School in Owings Mills, Maryland for 26 years, and Summer Director of Habonim Dror Camp Moshava for 25 years. Most importantly, she and her husband Rick have four grown children and eight grandchildren, two of whom they proudly share with B’nai Israel’s own Lisa and Alan Isenberg!
