Marsha Tishler, born in Poland during the Shoah, is a child survivor who credits both her parents and a compassionate Ukrainian couple for her life. At the end of the war, she and her parents illegally made their way to a displaced persons camp in Italy, where they remained for four and a half years. Finally, they were allowed to immigrate to the United States when she was seven and a half years old. Mrs. Tishler holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Master of Liberal Arts Degree from Johns Hopkins University. She has taught English at the secondary school level, as well as at Essex Community College and Towson State University. For over eight years,she was Director of Holocaust Programs at the Baltimore Jewish Council. Retired now, she and her husband enjoy being with their children and four grandchildren.
