Lessans Talmud Torah Hadracha/Madrichim Program 2024-2025

Thank you for your interest in our Lessans Talmud Torah Hadrachah Program! In this program, teens are engaged as teaching assistants in our Talmud Torah classrooms for Grades K-6 and advance on to larger roles within the synagogue. The madrichim partner with the teachers to build lessons and learn real-life job skills - while having fun and building relationships!

Lessans Talmud Torah Hadracha Program Application

Hadracha: Leadership Training
Madrichim: Counselors/Teacher's Assistant; singular: madrich, madricha, madriche

All new applicants and returning madrichim must complete this application for the 2024-2025 school year. This form is to be completed by the teen applicant, not a parent.

  • Madrichim assist teachers in B'nai Israel's Lessans Talmud Torah religious school. Our program meets on Sundays (K-6th grade), Tuesdays (3rd-6th grade), and Wednesdays (4th -6th grade virtual option).
  • Madrichim must attend trainings throughout the year, attend as many working days as possible, and be present and professional role models for our students while developing into future leaders.

Our expectations for madrichim are as follows:
  1. Arrive on time by 8:45 AM on Sundays and 4:20 PM on Tuesdays. All madrichim must clock in by 8:45 AM on Sundays and by 4:20 PM on Tuesdays.
  2. Check and read your emails and texts at least twice per week. Respond to them promptly as needed.
  3. Advance notification of planned absences as far in advance as possible. For unplanned (sick) absences, you must contact the office and the teacher to whom you are assigned as soon as possible via email, text, and/or phone call. This includes being proactive and texting/calling the teacher to whom I am assigned if you have questions.
  4. Attend at least 80% of madrichim trainings throughout the year. The first training is on Sunday, August 18 from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM and includes lunch. Make sure to put all of the dates in your calendar now: August 18, September 15, November 3, December 8, January 12, February 23, March 23, April 27, May 18, and one additional date TBD.
  5. Clock in and clock out on their own accord – madrichim are personally responsible for ensuring their hours are entered correctly.
  6. Be attentive, respectful, and work in collaboration with the teachers. Our Hadracha Program is a leadership training program, and madrichim are expected to be proactive in asking teachers what they can do to improve and be effective in the classroom, and do things that are needed without being reminded each week.
  7. Cell phones, airpods/earbuds, and any other devices are to be kept in a pocket or bag during working hours. The only exceptions are if you are asked to take photos/videos or to use your phone for curricular purposes, i.e. a teacher asks you to look something up for them.
  8. Madrichim on our Hadracaha Program are working in a "real job" and are expected to treat it as such. This includes dressing appropriately for a workplace. Please keep in mind that you are likely to want to list this job on your resume and any college or job applications, and you may want to ask staff for letters of recommendation in the future.
Applicants must be in 9th grade or older in the 2024-25 school year.

Please let us know if there are different situations where you prefer a different name and/or pronouns. (ex: with students, teachers, parents, etc.)
Please use your personal email address.
If you attend JDS and are planning to work until graduation only, please answer Yes.
If not applicable, please leave blank.
Select your t-shirt size- shirts are unisex-style Adult sized shirts.

Students attending public school will be paid. Students attending Day School may choose to be paid or to receive SSL hours.

Days and Hours:
Sunday 8:45 AM-12:15 PM (Grades K-6)
Tuesday 4:20-6:30 PM (Grades 3-6)
Wednesday Virtual 5:00-6:30 PM (Grades 4-6)
Selecting art, music, or office means that your may work on only that track. There are very limited spots for these roles.  We make an effort to place madrichim in the Hadrach program according to their preferences, but this is not always possible. Hebrew madrichim need to show an ability to work with Hebrew text. Madrichim are assigned as needed and changes may occur during the year.
Please answer the following questions about your Hebrew ability/skills, regardless of your placement preferences.
Examples:

ֹשָם        רֶגֶל        אָמְרוּ
Examples:

גָּם        אָדָם        תָּמִיד        רַבָּה

Examples:

עַתִּיקָה        מְפַרְנֵס        לְהִתְעַטֵּף        כְּמִֹשְפְּחוֹת

Optional.

The Hadracha Program is a leadership training program, so in addition to helping teach and being paid, we want you to gain tings through this experience.
Please review all expectations listed at the top of the form and put all dates in your calendar and share the dates with your parent(s).
No, really. I actually and seriously and legitimately understand that unless I am specifically asked by a teacher or administrator to use my phone for something that I will seriously actually really not be on my phone for real for real.
Please use a recent picture that is headshot-style.
