About B'nai Israel
Mission
Welcome! B’nai Israel Congregation and Talmud Torah is an egalitarian Conservative congregation with more than 1,200 families, located in Rockville, Maryland. With emphasis on spirituality, education, social action and the furtherance of a warm and caring community, we strive to make Jewish life enjoyable and attractive for our members across the generational lines.
Our Mission
B’nai Israel Congregation is a dynamic, warm, welcoming and inclusive Conservative synagogue committed to the spiritual growth of our members. Our community is grounded in the core values of Judaism: study of our tradition, worship of God, social action, and concern for the needs of the Jewish people, here, in Israel, and worldwide.
For more than 90 years, B’nai Israel has been a spiritual home, a flourishing center for Jewish living, and a welcoming setting for community. Our magnificent building hums with the sounds of meaningful and diverse Jewish experiences every day of the week. We take great pride in our quality programs, which reach children and adults of all ages—literally from cradle to grave and everything in between. Our caring, inclusion, and social action committees reach out to individuals in need both inside and outside our community. Our connection to and engagement with Israel runs deep.
And beyond our facility and programming, our primary goal is creating community. Our talented clergy and staff are eager to support members through life’s sacred moments and to build relationships that enhance the experience of belonging. Our Havurot (social groups), Sisterhood, Men’s Club, committees and other interest groups create a number of communities within the larger community. B’nai Israel is a place to get involved, meet people, and create lasting memories.
Our Programs
To encourage the involvement of our congregants, our Sisterhood, Men’s Club, and many other interest groups invite your participation in their programs and activities. Our education and youth programs encompass children of all ages—from Parent-Toddler groups through high school. We also maintain regular contact with our college students.
Our Facilities
The B’nai Israel Congregation campus consists of The Gerald S. Snyder Building and The Thelma and Melvin Lenkin Education and Activities Center. We take pride in the physical accessibility of our buildings, including a built-in lift to the bima in our Dweck sanctuary.
Our Community
We are part of the dynamic Jewish community in the metropolitan Washington, DC area, located in close proximity to the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington, Hebrew Home of Greater Washington and other senior facilities, and The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.
Our Movement
B’nai Israel Congregation is affiliated with United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.
